Kenya

The history of our presence in Kenya began in 2000 when the General Board, during the meeting of the General Consultative Body, expressed the dream of starting a community in Nairobi, Kenya. This dream was entrusted to the Tanzania Region...

Sister Immaculati, who was the regional superior at the time, got in touch with friends to find out more and look into the possibilities. By then, some sisters had already been sent to Nairobi to take part in training programmes and short courses.

In 2004, Sisters Melanie and Domenico from the General Administration travelled to Nairobi for further orientation. In the same year, Sister Bernadette began academic studies at one of the Catholic schools in Nairobi.

In 2005, the General Chapter recommended opening a CB community in Nairobi. The Tanzania Region promised to cooperate with the General Administration. They took responsibility for the growth of this mission, both in terms of administration and the formation of new Kenyan candidates. Kenya, a new area, was in fact an extension of the Tanzania Region.

In November 2005, a piece of land was purchased near the East African Catholic University, which formed the basis for our first community in Kenya. The location is ideal for a religious community and especially for our sister students.

We are active in the pastoral apostolate: setting up small Christian communities, prayer groups in parishes, pastoral work in schools, in several youth organisations, a hospital and in homes for the elderly. We also run a retreat house.
